Though clearly based on the car that preceded it, the Porsche 968 managed to achieve what the earlier front-engined, four-cylinder cars had failed to: a familial resemblance to the 911, the very car that defines the company.
Though the 968’s overall proportions, and dimensions were very similar to the 944, the softened lines, rounded ends and hood that dipped between the rounded-top fenders all declared the car’s very Porscheness with more than a nod to 911 styling.
Even today, 25 years later, it still looks fresh, perhaps because so few ever made it to our shores or, more simply, just because it remains a damn fine design.
